What brand of paint do you use?
We have a contractor accounts set up with Sherwin-Williams, Miller Paint, Benjamin Moore, and Rodda, all giving slight discounts off retail price. We use pretty much every major brand and they all seem to carry at least one or two quality lines of paint that we feel comfortable recommending to our customers. Our go to for interior walls is either Sherwin Williams Duration or Emerald line, or Millers Evolution line.
Do you roll or spray interiors?
We roll interior walls using a 12-14 inch roller and a brush to cut in the corners/ doors/ baseboards. We do this to reduce any overspray and there is a lot less prep work involved with rolling an interior. Depending on the job, we may spray ceilings.
What is your typical system of operation when painting an interior?
Typically on the first day of an interior job, we will begin by prepping the walls. This includes removing switch and outlet plate covers, filling any tack or nail holes, and doing any necessary drywall repairs, including texture to match the walls. After the walls are prepped, we will tape off baseboards, doors, windows, and trim if necessary. If we are painting the ceiling, we mask off all the floors, furniture, and any fixtures that could possibly get paint on them. After the ceiling is painted, I will lay drop cloths around the perimeter of the walls and begin to roll the paint on the walls of the room. Typically we apply two coats on the walls if it’s a color change. If the paint job is just to freshen up the walls with the same color that they already are just one coat is necessary. After the walls have been rolled, we begin cutting in the ceiling, baseboards, doors, windows, etc. Cutting in is typically the last part of the paint job of an interior. After all the walls have been cut in, we put the outlet and switch plates back on, clean up, and the job is be complete.
What is your typical system of operation when painting an exterior?
Typically on the first day of an exterior job, we will begin by washing the house. We work closely with a soft washing company (NW Soft Wash) who cleans all our homes, using a low-pressure system with special cleaning agents to prep your home prior to painting. Soft Washing has become the industry standard for home washing since high pressure is known to damage siding. Once the house has been cleaned, we’ll let the house completely dry for 1-3 days, depending on weather conditions. After the house has dried, we begin prepping the house to be sprayed. If there’s pealing paint we will scrape, sand and prime the areas. We then mask off the roofline, the foundation, windows, doors, vents, fixtures, etc. The prep time typically lasts a few hours, however it could last up to a full day, depending on house size and intensity of the project. Most of the time we are able to prep and spray a home in one day, however on bigger projects, this timeline gets extended. The day after the house is prepped, we will spray the body of the house. After the body of the house has been sprayed we finish by painting the trim colors, gutters, etc. Finally we thoroughly clean up the work site and the job will be complete.
What if I don’t know what color to paint my house?
This can sometimes be the hardest part! If you’re having trouble picking out a color, or narrowing down a few, we would be more than happy to pick up a few paint samples from the paint store and apply them to the interior or the exterior of your home to ensure that the color I paint your home is exactly what you want.
Do you do siding and/or drywall repairs prior to painting?
Yes! we work closely with a carpenter (Bannister Construction LLC) who does all our siding repairs, as well as any major drywall jobs. If there is only minor patchwork, we can generally handle that.
